the Identity
First Name: Zensen
Surname: Tasukaru
Alias: Zen
Age: 313 years
Gender: Male
Race: Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) Youkai
the Combatant
Powers/Weapons:
Jinsei: Accessible in both his human and true forms, the Jinsei refers to a number of instinct-based natural abilities which Zensen has as a Thylacine Youkai. The first of these abilities is his natural affinity to nature: his instincts can tell him a healthy animal from a sick one, an edible plant from a dangerous one, a helpful plant from a useless one. This affinity helps him in hunting and in some small degree of herbalism. The second ability encompassed by the Jinsei is his connection to Haramaki, his Thylacine familiar; this connection allows him to know where she is and what she is feeling at any given time as long as he taps into his energies to check on her. And though, as a familiar, she is capable of speaking in human tongues, the Jinsei also allows Zen to understand Haramaki’s speech in the Thylacine tongue, for whenever they do not wish for anyone else to understand her. Also lumped into the umbrella term, Jinsei, are his senses—highly increased senses of sight and hearing, but slightly dulled sense of scent—and also his natural physical abilities—slightly increased speed, practically endless stamina, and a relative lack of strength. Several other abilities can be lumped in with this term, such as a basic instinct which warns him of danger, and its later development into an instinct that will inform him of the intentions of others, but many of these abilities have not fully developed yet but will come later when Zen is older.
Hogosha: A powerful weapon created by one of the other Tasukaru Thylacines, the Hogosha is a long bow carved from several different layers of different types of wood for the perfect composition and reinforced with different metals. The bow’s string is sinews from fallen Thylacine familiars travelling with the tribe, and as such is especially powerful. The arrows used with the bow would be normal arrows, expect for the heads, which are made from the fangs of those same familiars. The bow itself is not merely a ranged weapon; along the outer curve of the bow are many fangs of Thylacine demons set into the wood and metal, and when it comes to it, Zensen can use the Hogosha as a melee weapon until he can get more distance between himself and his opponent. He tries his best not to use the bow in such a manner, as the wear and tear shortens its life each time, and he has no intention of destroying the Hogosha if he can help it.
Assuru: The Tasukaru tribe of Thylacine youkai is a tribe of craftsmen well versed in guile and speech craft; this is not due just to their own practice in persuading others, but due to their demonic energies, and a power referred to as Assuru. In his human form, whenever the need arises, Zensen can become very persuasive by trapping another youkai or a human in a gaze that, unless they resist it, makes them automatically wish to agree with whatever he says. The power of the Assuru comes from his eyes, and can be performed on anyone who can see them, though it is not guaranteed to work on everyone. With practice and age, Zen will be able to capture multiple targets within the effects of the Assuru, but for right now he can only use the effect on one person.
Gunshuku: The Thylacine demons are not fighters, and their powers reflect this. Whenever Zen is forced to call upon his true form in battle, his body immediately and constantly begins to try and stop the fight. Zen’s body has the ability to emit a constant calming scent, called Gunshuku, which will attempt to calm any youkai or human within the area until they no longer have any wish to fight; so long as they remain under the influence of the Gunshuku, they will forget why they had even been fighting in the first place, giving Zen a chance to stop the fight and get away without harming himself or his opponent.
Odorokasu: Another ability used to stop a fight rather than to end it violently, the Odorokasu is as a scare tactic used in Zensen’s true form on youkai who can resist the effects of the Gunshuku. The Odorokasu is akin to the Thylacine’s “threat-yawn” of showing their fangs by opening their jaws to the full 120 degrees they are capable of. The Odorokasu, however, is accompanied by a high-pitch cry that, in addition to being of acute bother to some youkai with better hearing, is meant to effect the other youkai’s brain so that they are immediately and acutely afraid of Zensen. Youkai effected by the Odorokasu often turn and run from the fight, led by the false thoughts of fear caused by the sound, and allowing a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Claws and Fangs: When all else fails, and peace steps aside for battle, Zensen’s only offense in his true form comes from his natural weapons: 46 large fangs in a mouth that can open to a gaping 120 degrees, and eighteen non-retractable claws, five on each fore-paw, and four on each hind-paw.
Strengths (physical): Zensen’s physical abilities are aggressively unremarkable, though he does have nearly endless bounds of energy due to a Thylacine’s heightened stamina, and though his abilities are not impressive in strength or speed, he can still out last many others due to his stamina.
Weaknesses(physical): Zen is quite truthfully a weak youkai; he has no impressive strength, and he isn’t all that quick, putting him at quite the disadvantage in battle.
the Body
Appearance:
Human Form: In his human form, Zensen appears to be a lean teenager of about sixteen or seventeen years old. Standing at about five feet, three inches tall, and probably weighing less than a hundred pounds (darn that lack of scales in the feudal era; I can’t get his exact weight xD), Zen is hardly the most intimidating sight. Being a Thylacine youkai, Zen is more agile-and-quick than brute-force oriented, and though he has some muscle, he’s hardly the body-builder type. His hair falls a little past his shoulders, and is a dark brown on the crown of his head fading to dark blonde from his ears down, the same two colors which show up in the fur of a Thylacine. His dark brown bangs fall to just above his eyes, which are a dark red in color.
As far as clothing goes, Zensen is not big on being very fancy; instead, he opts for more simple, comfortable clothes: a loose fitting pair of deer-hide pants held in place by a belt made of tough but thin sinews, also from deer. His chest and arms are bare; he is not the type to be constantly in battle, and so is not worried about armor, nor is he very concerned with appearances when it would be of detriment to his own comfort. On his feet he wears simple shoes of deer-hide that are almost Native American in design. Almost. They are worn and quite thin, but still contribute some amount of padding between his feet and the rough ground.
On his lower back, just above where his pants stop, there is a rather large tattoo which covers from one side of his back to the other. The tattoo is a very tribal, abstract design of a Thylacine that is standing as though looking down on its beaten prey, its mouth agape and its tongue lolling out of the mouth, its tail curved smugly up and over its back. The tattoo is the mark of the Tasukaru Thylacine tribe of which Zensen is a part of.
True Form: Zensen’s true form consists very simply of a very large Thylacine. Almost canine-like in appearance, the Thylacine has a long, canine mouth filled with 46 teeth, with the two canine fangs showing very slightly even when his mouth is closed. His ears are relatively large and are softly rounded. His entire body is covered with short, thick fur of a tawny brown color, darker on his back and lighter on the underside, with 13 dark brown, borderline black, stripes from just past his shoulders down to his tail.
Haramaki: Zensen’s Thylacine familiar, Haramaki appears as a slightly larger than normal Thylacine with a slightly altered appearance. In addition to being larger than normal Thylacines, Haramaki also has much larger ears that are pointed rather than rounded. She has the normal stripes along her back and the base of her tail, but she also has stripes on her forelegs right behind her fore paws. Her hind claws are of normal size, but her fore claws are impressively large, her main weapons, more so than even her fangs. The most noticeable difference between her and normal Thylacines are the spikes on her body. She has two small, curved spikes on each side of her head, positioned right beneath her ears, and in front of the long tufts of fur which grow from behind her ears to curve down past her neck. Two more, slightly larger spikes grow on each shoulder blade. The final four spikes are on the end of her tail, two on either side right before the tuft of fur that makes of the end of her tail. Other than the spikes on her tail, which can be used as weapons, the spikes have little more value than just to make her look more threatening. However, the spikes can have some small defensive abilities, being positioned near her neck where she can position them to fend off enemies from getting any attacks in on her neck. Much like Zensen’s true form, Haramaki is a tawny brown in color with stripes of dark brown.

the Mind
Personality: Unlike most demons, the Thylacine tribe members are quite peaceful, being craftsmen as opposed to warriors, and Zensen is no different from his family members and fellow tribe members. Though he has not yet discovered his craft skill, Zen still acts as a craftsman, having a passive, patient nature. He is not a violent man, much preferring a peaceful solution to any issues, and avoids battle as much as he can, using his demonic abilities to pacify anyone attempting to start a fight. When it comes to dealing with humans, Zen is actually quite cordial to them; his people, as craftsmen, recognize the skill that humans have, and welcome the opportunity to learn from others of the trade, regardless of youkai or human. Zen is not overly nice or bubbly, but rather has a quite calmness to him, being cordial and polite without being obnoxiously kind. Though he is not completely demeaning towards humans, he still recognizes the rift between his kind and there, and he is not one to try and cross that rift, but rather leaves the distance between his kind and theirs. Zensen is relatively mature for his age; though he is still young as far as youkai go, he is more serious than anything, not the type for sarcasm or joking, though he is not opposed to a few pranks, or having a fun time. Still, Zen is more interested in learning than playing, an intellectual who wishes to learn more about crafting so that he might discover which craft is to be his when he returns to the tribe.
Strengths (emotional): Being such a calm intellectual, Zen is quite wise, and being a pacifist can also be counted as a strength, when it saves him from getting himself killed in battle.
Weaknesses (emotional): Also due to being such a intellectual and not a fighter, Zensen is relatively timid, and can sometimes be seen as a coward for avoiding combat like he does.
Likes: Quiet, serenity, peace, learning, crafting, hunting.
Dislikes: Noise, chaos, combat, stupidity.

Background Story: Zensen was born into the Tasukaru tribe of Thylacine Youkai, the last remaining tribe of Thylacines, and a relatively small one at that. The Tasukaru tribe is set in a small territory in the southern lands, their main den a cave in the southern mountains not from the border with the Wolf territory. Due to the Thylacines’ passive nature, they have managed to live at peace with their neighbors the wolves, and have managed to minimize bloodshed by avoiding them. Apart from the rare border dispute, the packs and the tribe stay out of each others’ way and thus keep the peace.
The Tasukaru tribe, though made up of demons and their companions, the Thylacine familiars, are not fighters, but craftsmen. They are hunters and gatherers, getting all their food and materials from nature; they do not have farms or mines or any such harvesting methods; rather, they collect what they find in nature and use it in their crafting. The Thylacines are clothiers, metal-workers, leather-workers, weapon smiths and armor smiths, wood-workers, and herbalists, among others. Zensen’s father, Neijin, was an herbalist, using the remedies of plants to help his tribe, while Zen’s mother, Katai, was a wood-worker, a skilled carver.
Thylacine youkai remain with the tribe and their parents for the first few centuries, training and apprenticing with the different tribe members to get a taste of each type of work that is available to them. During this time, they are trained also in the use of weapons in basic self defense, and are given the chance to choose what type of weapon they want, at which point select members of the tribe will work together to craft the special weapon which will stay with them their entire lives. The weapon takes many years of hard work before it is finished, and is kept by the young Thylacine’s parents until they deem their child ready to use it.
At one century and three decades, Zensen was thought to be old enough to choose his familiar from a litter of newborn Thylacines. He was taken to the den where the mother guarded over the young Thylacine familiars, and was given time to check each one. Eventually Zensen made his decision: a small female, only slightly bigger than the runt of the little, who Zensen felt a connection to. He named the pup Haramaki, and visited her each day in the den until she was old enough to leave her mother’s side, at which time she began following him.
When a Thylacine’s parents believe that he or she is ready, the young Thylacine is allowed to leave the tribe for a while, to venture outside their territory and to get experience in the world. They are given this opportunity so that they are not simply ignorant of the outside world, and also in the hopes that they may bring back some new techniques of crafting. For Zen, his parents deemed him to be ready when he reached three centuries, one decade old, about an average age for young Thylacines to be thought ready. He was given his bow, the Hogosha, and allowed to leave.
With Haramaki following, Zensen decided to go north until he was outside the tribe territory, and then decide from there. Once outside of the territory, he decided to go towards the west, to get a chance to see the river that was said to flow through the western territory; he had only ever seen small streams within his territory. He took his time reaching it, and upon reaching it he traveled up along its banks, taking his sweet time; he was in no hurry. For the last three years he has simply been dawdling about near the river, speaking to the travelers he passed along its banks. By now, however, he is ready to move on, and has decided to leave the banks of the river to discover other lands outside the Thylacine territory.
