the Identity
First Name: Virtus (Desiderio)
Surname: Iustus
Alias: Vir (Derio)
Age: 12 Years (893 Years)
Gender: Male
Race: Otter Hanyou
the Combatant
Powers/Weapons:
Dagger: As a twelve year old, Virtus hardly has the strength to carry a weapon, let alone wield one; however, as he is a hanyou, his mother worries about his safety, and has given him a simple steel dagger with a battered leather sheath to protect himself with, as she believes he is mature enough to not hurt himself with it, or to needlessly hurt others. Indeed, Virtus has never even used the dagger, and has only ever unsheathed it once, to look at its blade when it was first given to him only a couple months ago.
Innocence: As a twelve year old, part demon or not, Virtus has the power of innocence: his puppy-dog eyes can bring almost any female to an indulgent nature, and you’d have to be one cold-hearted person to want to hurt this little kid. Of course, Vir will eventually grow out of this, but until he does, it is his only defense, given his lack of any other powers at this age.
Strengths (physical): Vir is a kid: he’s absolutely adorable, and his young looks make any female want to protect him. That’s all he’s got going for him, though.
Weaknesses(physical): …He’s twelve. Think about it; it’ll come to you =P
the Body
Appearance: As a hanyou, Virtus’s body has no separation between human and true forms; his is the combined body of Otter demon and human. He resembles a child-sized human/otter hybrid; he has the lower body of an otter that walks on two legs, including the broad tail and webbed paws; his upper body is that of a human boy. Well, mostly; he has the nose and mouth of an otter as well, but other than that, his upper body is human. Having the lower body of an otter, he cannot wear pants very easily, but he wears a shirt to cover what he can. His shirt is a loose-fitting long-sleeve shirt of a dark green trimmed at the cuffs, collar, and lower hem with gold, and over this, to keep him warm, he wears a vest made of fur. He has a young boyish face—apart from the otter’s nose and mouth, that is—with large, wide green-blue eyes that are perfectly suited to puppy-dog eyes; quite fitting with the rest of his appearance, actually. He has a tousle of light brown hair atop his head which is never neat and always wild; the hair of a young boy who doesn’t have a care in the world regarding his looks.
As a hanyou, Virtus has a certain time when he turns human; for him, the third day of each month is the time when he turns human. Still twelve years old, this doesn’t really effect Virtus much, since he doesn’t have too many enemies to worry about. As a human, Virtus looks much the same, though his boyish face no longer has the mouth and nose of an otter, and his lower half becomes that of a human, with no tail to speak of. In this form, he wears a loose fitting pair of yellow pants, though he still goes without shoes; he doesn’t think they’re comfortable enough to wear them.

the Mind
Personality: Virtus’s appearance is most certainly not the only thing strange about him, for he is definitely not your normal person; he has something of a case of multiple personalities, a result of nearly drowning when he was younger. While he does not switch between personalities, he does converse with the other personality in his head. He believes he is the chosen vessel of Desiderio, the savior of the Iustus otters his father lives with, and that it is Desiderio’s voice which he hears in his head, while truthfully it is only his own. He carries on full conversations with this voice, not realizing that he speaks both parts, and he will even ask “Desiderio” for advice, causing him to have a strange way of acting when speaking to others, for he will often pause to converse with Desiderio in the middle of a conversation with anyone else.
Apart from his odd habit of spacing out during conversations, Virtus could probably be a normal child; he has the innocent, naïve, gullible, irrepressible spirit of a child: he believes that other people can not be truly evil, that everything is possible as long as you believe, and he has an amazing imagination. He’s a complete dork, often trying to sound intelligent, using big words quite often, and failing miserably at the attempt. He tries to act brave, but when it comes down to it, he’s a complete coward. He has sky-high self-confidence most of the time, and doesn’t let other peoples’ comments bother him; he’s a good little kid that listens to his parents and they told him not to let other people bother him, so he doesn’t.
Speaking of his parents, both are still alive and kicking, and he listens to them both pretty much unflinchingly. He follows the boundaries they set, does as he’s told; he’s too much of a wimp to knowingly do something that will get him in trouble. He has a child’s innocent logic in things, not fully grasping most concepts, and being extremely optimistic; as I said, apart from Desiderio, Virtus would be a perfectly normal child, hanyou or not.
However, we cannot forget Desderio’s presence. Desiderio is the braver, more intelligent, and far more negative portion of his personality. Derio is sarcastic, overly critical, condescending, pessimistic, and just plain rude. Virtus believes he is older and wiser, however, and so listens to him despite this. This has some effect on his actions at times, though if Derio suggests something that Virtus thinks will get him in trouble, not even the voice he believes is a great otter demon from the past can get him to do it, leaving Virtus to still act as an innocent child more often than not.
Strengths (emotional): Virtus has the irrepressible spirit of a child; things don’t bother him, he has the utmost self-confidence, and he will try to make friends with just about anyone. Desiderio has a more mature personality, and is wiser and more cautious.
Weaknesses (emotional): Virtus is a complete and utter dork; he’s naïve, gullible, and innocent; he doesn’t understand things well, and when things do get to him, it doesn’t anger him, but rather hurts his feelings and often ends with him crying. Quite pathetic, really. Desiderio, on the other hand, is overly-critical and blunt, not all that helpful to Virtus.
Likes: Virtus enjoys a diet of fish, time exploring, nice people, his parents, and a good lot of childish things. Desiderio is more fond of having Virtus do as he says and being right.
Dislikes: Virtus doesn’t like mean people, vegetables, having to sit still, having nothing to do, or being teased. Desiderio doesn’t like being annoyed, which can mean a great deal of other things he is not fond of, including obnoxious people, loud noises, stupidity, etc.

Background Story:
For one to truly understand the background of Virtus, one must also understand the background of Desiderio, the savior of the Iustus Otter romp (that’s the proper term for a group of otters, by the way xD). The Iustus otters are not a very old lot, only a couple of generations back their claim to the territory they hold. Their history, however, stretches far beyond just a few generations. The Iustus romp was once part of the much larger Hitodenashi romp from further south along the coast. The Hitodenashi otters were a nasty bunch lead by a nastier otter called Acario; he was a greedy guy who demanded a constant supply of food and whatever else he asked from his fellow otters and any humans unfortunate enough to live in the area. Of course, following his example, the Hitodenashi otters began to make similar demands of the humans and each other; the whole thing was a mess.
The Hitodenashi romp began to outgrow its territory; they were a ragged bunch of otters, but there were plenty of them. They started to expand, but facing other romps with their unruly band of otters, they didn’t stand a chance, and so turned inward for more space and power; the Hitodenashi romp began to prey on each other for more than just demands. This practice tore the romp apart from the inside, but it didn’t last long; there had been considerable dissent among the romp since Acario’s rise to power, and finally a small united group stepped forward, following the web-footed lead of Desiderio, one of the most revered members of the romp.
Desiderio challenged Acario to stop the fighting or step down and let him handle things; Acario refused to do either, and instead decided to punish Desiderio for his insubordination; the two fought, and Desiderio emerged victorious. He took control of the romp and quickly put end to the fighting, banishing those who would not listen, killing those who would not leave. He had great views for the Hitodenashi romp, but those he had banished did not intend to see them come to fruition with him in control; they rallied the other romps and attacked the Hitodenashi otters.
Desiderio recognized a loosing battle when he saw one; he led his considerably smaller band of followers north, leaving the territory behind and claiming another, much smaller one, where they lived in peace, rebuilding while avoiding any trouble. Desiderio himself lived for many more centuries, seeing the romp come to prosper in their new land, but he was ever bitter of the other romps, wishing for revenge until the day he decided to take revenge himself, setting out alone. He was 893 years old when he left, and he never did return; the entire romp mourned his death. After all, Desiderio had saved their lives from death at each others’ claws, or against the other romps. He was their savior. Many rallied to avenge his death; others spoke that he would not wish them to fight a losing battle. The romp split again.
Those who went south carried the name Hitodenashi with them, and did not return from their endeavors. Those who remained north chose a new name, that of their new leader: Iustus. They continued to prosper in their new territory, keeping peace with human and youkai alike. Iustus still lives, though now he is a very old otter, the fur of his full form white, and his human form appearing quite elderly indeed, though he still leads well, with the help of willing members of the romp.
One of these willing members is Douzo, a relatively young male; not the most help, but willing all the same. He has a friendly nature and is not so condescending towards humans as some of the others. For the past many years, Douzo has been handling keeping the peace with humans, visiting villages and speaking with the humans, trading, doing whatever need be done. He began to develop many friends within the nearest village, the one which was within the territory of the romp. One human in particular, a woman named Koushi, became especially close with the young diplomat. Douzo began to spend more time among the humans than the otters, and the two became very close indeed.
Virtus was born twelve years ago to Douzo the Otter Demon and Koushi the human; a half-breed. The otters had never harmed the humans of this village; they did not fear them, but nor did they allow them to become too close. There is a rift between humans and demons that should not be crossed by any, and though this hanyou was no threat, he was still unacceptable. The humans and demons agreed not to kill the child—there was no need—but neither would fully accept the child, either.
Douzo and Koushi did their best to shield young Virtus from much of the disdain, but even he had to be allowed to have some freedom, and the children of the romp and the village would often bully him, though he never let it bother him; Douzo and Koushi had taught him to never let it bother him. However, at nine years old, Virtus was a normal, irrepressible child who believed he could do anything. When the children of the Iustus romp challenged him to staying under water as long as them, Virtus could not back down.
The minute they hit water, the youkai changed to their true form, given them a better ability to hold their breath than Virtus could ever hope to have; the boy, in his attempt, nearly drowned, and went for a considerable time deprived of oxygen. His kin from the romp pulled him from the water—they had not meant for him to get hurt—but the damage was still done.
The damage to his brain was not immediately known, nor has it been recognized by anyone but himself as of yet; and he, himself, does not believe it is the result of damage, but of a blessing. You see, Virtus, like all of the otter children of the romp, had been told the spectacular tales of Desiderio, how he defeated Acario and saved the romp, and how he never lost his hope for revenge against the other romps. The children all believed his spirit still wandered, waiting for a chance to get at the others, though the adults believed he was at peace knowing his kin had not died the same death as he. Virtus, like the other children, believed the former.
During his time under water, Virtus had been deprived of oxygen long enough to damage his brain; he developed a case of multiple personality disorder; a voice began to make itself quite clear within his head, with its own personality and seemingly its own thoughts. The product of his imagination, the voice took on the character of Desiderio; Virtus began to truly believe that the wandering spirit of the great warrior had found a home in his body and was going to use him to get revenge against the other otters. Desiderio and he began to coexist, speaking at all times; Virtus looked to Derio—as he often called him—for advice and leadership, and Desiderio, the braver, surer part of his personality, would eagerly answer. Desiderio was a source of knowledge as well, and though Virtus believed it to be the knowledge of the great savior of the Iustus romp, it has always been knowledge his original personality had simply forgotten, or innate, subconscious knowledge accessible by Desiderio and not by Virtus.
Virtus continued to grow with Desiderio as a constant presence, though live for him otherwise remained the same as it had before his near drowning. He continued his explorations of the romp’s territory and the village, and continued to get into trouble with demon and human alike. At the urging of Douzo, when Virtus turned twelve, Koushi gave the boy a small, simple dagger to carry with him, to protect himself if needed; both parents thought that, as he got older, he may need its help; he was accepted now, but neither was sure if he would be accepted as he grew older.
Virtus’ life is much the same now, though Douzo allows him to sometimes accompany him to other villages, outside the territory of the romp, so long as he stays out of trouble. As expected, these villagers are not always so readily accepting of the hanyou, and he has begun to get a taste of the life he may have later, but his innocent spirit is irrepressible as always, and he does not let any comments bother him. His boundaries of where he can explore are ever increasing, but he is still limited to very near the Iustus territory when alone, and is not allowed to stray far from Douzo when visiting other villages, though for him, at his age, this is enough.
